Huy Bui

Bui, has a practice rooted in environmental design, builds modular units that stack and suspend in space and play host to an interconnected world of weaving ecosystems. The modular units come in a variety of scales and mediums, bridging disciplines from art, industrial, furniture, and interiors to architecture and urban design. The objects and installations, which inhabit home, retail, work, public, and gallery spaces, inspire and provoke questions about the ecology of our daily lives.
Huy Bui’s work pushes towards what he calls “Art and Architecture in the Age of The Anthropocene.” His body of work weaves thoughts of utopia and dystopia into his built environments. His ongoing work and collaboration - Plant-in City - explores the cross-section of Plants, Architecture and Technology. His work “A Structure for Hope and Survival” is a candor response to the escalating climate crisis. to His work with Patrick Parrish Gallery - Geological Frame - looks at how Earth’s artifacts reveal the relationship between topography and the industrial hand of humans. Bui is a visiting faculty member at Parsons the New School for Design and recently led Street Seats in the Spring of 2017, a public seating program at the SCE (School of Constructed Environments) in conjunction with the New York City DOT (Department of Transportation). Bui also led the senior year product design in the Fall of 2016, with a curricula based on the theme of Modular Ecology.
Bui is also the co-founder of An Choi Vietnamese Eatery, located in the Lower East Side of New York City. Bui also completed the design and build of a new restaurant, Di An Di in Greenpoint in the spring of 2018.
